P ietrArsa & Mimmo Maglionico - 'O Sarracino (new)

This new Neapolitan sound is the offspring of the global era where what is close to us is blended with that which comes to us from far away and where the ancient and the modern are interwoven into a single sound. Traditional rhythms are combined with the sonorities of the Mediterranean, as well as with pop, rock and the new age. These are the influences and innovations that have led this band to create their new record Napoli EtnoStile, to be released in April 2009.
After the release of their debut CD pietrArsa in 2005 and a tour that included concerts in the major Italian festivals, as well as taking them to France, Spain, Croatia, Greece and Pakistan, the group led by Mimmo Maglionico will be going on the road again with a show full of thoroughly danceable numbers. This new sound is constantly balanced between tradition and modernity. There is more of a world-music flavour and an absolutely acoustic feeling, with the standard drums backed up by the power of the hand-held tammorra, the electric bass embellished by the many nuances of the chitarra battente (folk guitar), the oud (Arabic lute) and the bouzouki, and the three singing voices enhanced by the flute, the ciaramella (oboe), the clarone (bass clarinet) and the quena (Peruvian flute).
